Geraldine A. Munch, age 93, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2016. She was born on June 4, 1922 in Atlas Township, Michigan. She married her beloved husband William Munch on August 23, 1947, and they were married for 62 years until his death in 2009. She drove an ambulance during WWII and met her husband while he was in the Army stationed in Flint. Both Gerry and her husband Bill were very active members of the Presbyterian Churches that they attended. One of Gerry and Bill’s chief joys was retiring and moving to their lakefront property on Houghton Lake just two streets over from her sister and brother-in-law’s house. Gerry was a role model and a loving mother who did crafts and made everything fun for her two daughters, Diana and Linda. She was a very strong person who fought to keep her youngest daughter, Linda, in a regular classroom instead of a classroom for the mentally and physically disabled, in spite of hassles from all sides about Linda’s spina bifida. She was a supportive mother who always attended her daughters’ concerts. She was also a good homemaker. She took extension classes, improving her skills in things like tailoring, china painting, cooking, and jewelry making, and she sewed or knitted clothes for her daughters and even her daughters’ dolls. Gerry was a Girl Scout leader and a Sunday school teacher who loved working with children. She helped set up elementary school Inter-Media Centers which included library, art, and science areas for the Garden City Public Schools and worked as a paraprofessional librarian herself for fifteen years. She was a great story teller. Gerry was friendly, kind, caring, and fun to be around. She was someone in her later years who was still fun to watch old movies with. She is survived by her sisters: Lillian (James) Pajunen and Silence Margaret Andrews; her daughters: Diana (Robert Smalz) Munch, and Linda Munch; and by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Munch, and brother, Al Austin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Hill Funeral Home (11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI). Visitation will take place on Friday from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Hill Funeral Home, Grand Blanc, MI.
