Gladys Irene Uhelski, age 92, died peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Vicinia Gardens in Fenton, MI. A memorial service will be held at 12pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 18, 2019 beginning at 10am until the time of service. Gladys was born on September 26, 1926 in Flint, daughter of the late Roy and Edith (Poultney) Nelson. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1944. On November 23, 1946 Gladys married Steve John Uhelski in Flint. Gladys was a lifelong resident of Flint and Grand Blanc where in her early adult years she served as a sacristan at Holy Family Catholic Church. She worked in the community at Laurie’s Childrens store then was employed at the Carriage Shoppe for 19 years as a fashion consultant. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #413 of Grand Blanc. Gladys was an avid reader, loved music and dancing to all types of music. She also loved nature but especially enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens. She will be remembered for her glamour, beauty, and style; her wisdom, kindness, and generosity, her outrageous sense of humor, and for being a great role model to her children, family, and friends. She is survived by her children: Stephen (Mary) Nelson, Meredith (John) Waterman of Grand Blanc, Lizabeth Stiltz of Lake Bluff, IL; son-in-law, Matthew Stiltz of Cincinnati, OH; daughter-in-law, Debra Uhelski of Grand Blanc. Also surviving are grandchildren: Lacey Uhelski, Nicole Uhelski, Zachary (Kelli) Stiltz, Spencer (Stephanie) Stiltz, Hillary (Brian) Orlowski, and John Waterman III; many great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Uhelski; son, Michael Uhelski; brother, Roy Nelson; sister, Dorothy Smith. The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff at Vicinia Gardens and the Medical Team Hospice for their continuous care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
