Ida Ruth Williamson, age 80, of Burton, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020, at her home.

Ida was born January 29, 1940, in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Booker T. and Virgie (Hales) Elmore. Ida met Leodis Williamson as a young woman while visiting her aunt, whose house neighbored his sister’s. Leodis was so taken with Ida that he devised any excuse to be near her. Ida and Leodis started dating, fell in love, and were eventually married on Valentine’s Day of 1959. They shared thirty-eight wonderful years together until Leodis’s death on July 15, 1997.

Ida worked as a teacher’s aide at Garfield Elementary School for fourteen years until her retirement, and cherished the memories she made there with her students. She attended Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Flint for over sixty years where she also sang in the Mass Choir. In her free time, Ida could be found crocheting, watching the Gameshow Network, and cheering on the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Lions. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant the world to her. Those who knew Ida will remember her by her kind and generous spirit. Every day, she taught her daughters what it means to be a Christian woman. She was a phenomenal woman who will be missed by many.

Ida was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leodis Williamson; parents, Booker T. and Virgie Elmore; and her brother, John Elmore.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three loving daughters: Yolanda Williamson, Camelia (Ollie Fryer, Jr.) Williamson, and LeAndra (Ronald) Randolph; her five grandchildren: Petros (Reanna) Gheresus, Victoria (Bryndan) Arnold, Alexander Fryer, Ryan Randolph, and Lauryn Randolph; her four great-grandchildren: Marcellus, Alexander Jr., Robel, and Hassan; Aunt Clemmie Hales; Uncle Cleveland Hales; special nieces: Paulette Hollowell and Elcoma (Nikki) Elmore; extended family members Dr. Petros and Lestine Gheresus, DeLisa Husband (Jayli), and Yosief Gheresus; best friend, Mama Lottie, as well as a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Ida’s family will be present to receive friends from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, November 20, 2020, at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439. Saturday, Ida will lie in state from 10:30 am until the time of her funeral service at 11:00 am at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Ida was a beautiful caring woman who was loved by so many. When I think of Ida Williamson, I’m reminded of the countless people she helped both in the community as well as her family. I first met Ida at Garfield Elementary School where she worked as a teacher’s aid. She grew close to my family and that relationship lasted a lifetime. However, I’m even more blessed and thankful to Ida, because she introduced me to her niece Shaun. We later married and had three beautiful children. There is simply no words, except “ Ida, thank you and I love you.

I remember meeting Mrs. Williamson a day we skipped school. She welcomed us into her home. Her kitchen to be exact, asking if we were hungry or wanted something to drink At that time we discovered our birthdays were a few days apart. From that moment she began calling me by my nickname and would do so any and every time we'd see each other. I've never felt like a stranger to her and her to me.

She was a true example of the ole saying "never met a stranger.

Love you much.

The pain of losing your first love is heartbreaking. Ms Ida was such a wonderful woman. I remember meeting her the first time, she made me feel special and welcomed me with her warm open heart. It is my prayer that Ms. Ida's deep and unyielding faith in God and His Mercy will help you sisters bear this pain.
Rev 21: 4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
