PICKERING, James K. ‘JIM’ , age 90, of Grand Blanc, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, March 16, 2012 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Bethany Baptist Church, 2353 E. Grand Blanc Road, Grand Blanc, Pastor Chris Tenneriello officiating. James will lie in state at the church Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. James was born on February 17, 1922 in Flint, son of the late John and Kate (Frost) Pickering. He graduated from the University of Michigan, earning a B.S. in Engineering and served in the United States Navy. Jim, an engineer, retired from General Motors in 1980. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and enjoyed singing solos and participating in the church choir. Jim was also a member of the American Legion in Grand Blanc and had been a Boy Scout Leader. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Irma L. Pickering, children Catherine DeSota, Carole (Marvin) MacRae Schierbeek, James Pickering, Jr., Janine (John) Hewlett, and David (Jennifer) Pickering. James is also survived by Grandchildren Ethan (Vanessa) DeSota, Nathanael (Christina) DeSota, Alicia (David) Mead, Elisabeth (Aaron) Mead, Laura (Daniel) Banura, Jeremy (Carla) DeSota, Susanna DeSota, Erin (Jeremy) Osborn, Shannon (Joe) Dunlap, Adam (Kate) MacRae, Jonathon Hewlett, Jessica Pickering and David Pickering Jr., 26 great grandchildren, brother Jack (Harriet) Pickering and brother in law Harvey Darling. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son in law Glenn DeSota and a sister Doris Darling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church.
