James was born on June 19, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, to William Eugene Sprague and Beatrice Marie (Raymond) Sprague. He spent his life devoted to his family, his faith, and the people he loved.
On November 12, 1957, he married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Ann Sprague. Together, they shared 43 wonderful years before her passing. He later married Kate Ilene Sprague on September 18, 2001, with whom he shared 25 years before her passing.
James retired from General Motors after 32 years of dedicated service. His faith was an important part of his life, and he looked forward to attending church every Sunday and Men's Club on the first Wednesday of each month. He was a devoted Christian who loved God and found comfort in reading his Bible.
A lifelong football fan, James especially loved cheering on his Detroit Lions. He also enjoyed watching old westerns, playing the occasional poker game at Thanksgiving with family, and of course, indulging in his favorite sweets. He had a generous heart and regularly donated to charities, always wanting to help others.
Above all, James loved his family. He was a man of few words but had a heart of gold. He was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone without question or hesitation. He spent many years as a devoted husband and was blessed with a family who loved him dearly. He was the best husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.
James is survived by his four children, Joy (Tim) Ross, James (Pam) Sprague, Jessie (Terrie) Sprague, and Pam (Stephen) Kennedy; his three stepchildren, Mark Nichols, Lisa Nichols, and Scott Nichols; his brother, Dave and his sister, Lynn; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Patricia and Kate, his parents, William and Beatrice, his brothers, Max and Bill, his sisters, Judy and Verna, and his grandson, Christopher Sprague.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, generous spirit, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. He made a lasting difference in the lives of those who knew him. His love and the examples he set will remain with his family for generations to come.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
