Jessie Elizabeth Powers

away suddenly May 3, 2012, visiting at her twin sister's home in Garrett,

Kentucky. Jessie was born on February 7, 1918 in Richmond Michigan, to

Genevieve Sutton and Clair Saunders. On January 2, 1935 she married

Charles Sharland and lived in Goodrich, where they raised a family and

farmed for over 30 years. The family was active in 4H and the Grange. In

addition to farming, she also worked at the Goodrich Hospital and Roberts

Market in Atlas. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1980

and she remained in Goodrich. On February 14, 1983 she married Ken

Powers who passed away in 1991 and she remained living in Grand Blanc.

Jessie vacationed the winters in Zephyrhills with her son Charles and also

enjoyed a cabin in St. Helen. Mrs. Powers was an avid gardener, and loved

cooking, baking and canning. She also continued to play cards up to the

time of her death. She enjoyed reading and was an exceptional local

historian on the Goodrich area. Above all, Mrs. Power's true love was her

family and she loved spending time with them. Her family is her legacy and

she will be greatly missed. She is survived by 3 children: Nita (Bob) Reek,

Charles Sharland, and Lewis Sharland. Grandchildren: David (Sheri) Reek,

Patty (Gray) Webber, Steven Reek, Mike (Beth) Reek, Kathy (Rod) Cain,

Cathy (Bill) Isaacson, Louis (Denise) Carriveau, Cindy (Brett) DeGuise,

and Desiree Sharland . Also surviving are 19 great grandchildren and 13

great great grandchildren. Mrs. Powers twin sister, Jennie Banks, is also

living. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by two daughter-in-laws, Linda

Sharland (Lewis) and Gudrun Sharland (Charles).

Graveside Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the

Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, MI. Arrangements by the Hill Funeral

Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI.
