Interment at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery. Joanne “Morning Dove” was born June 22, 1923 in Posen, MI to the late John and Eva (Lewcio) Dziuba. She truly “walked three miles in the snow” to a one room school house in the winter where she excelled in school, even though she had to learn to speak English. She wasn’t allowed to speak or write in Polish, which was the primary language spoken at home and by her classmates. She was the Valedictorian of the first high school class at Posen High School. Joanne left the family farm to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education at Central Michigan University. She then went back to the rural Posen one room school house and ended up teaching her younger brothers and sister. Joanne would get there early to start up the wood stove in the winters. She left Michigan for Florida and taught at the school for the deaf at St. Augustine where she enjoyed the sun and warm winters. Joanne was recruited to teach at the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint where she retired after teaching there for 44 years. After returning to Michigan, she earned her Master of Science in Education from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1952. Joanne also went on to the Arthur Murray School of Dance to further educate her creative side. She excelled in dance also and participated in many dance contests and won many trophies throughout the U.S. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Lillian (Melbourne) LeMieux of Alpena; sister-in-law, Annabelle (Felix) Dziuba of Davisburg, MI; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lorraine Dziuba and Frances (Bill) Howard; brothers, Felix, John, Stanley, and Chauncey. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Genesys and her devoted care givers at home, Flo, Neysa, Nan, and Samantha. Those desiring may make contributions to the Michigan School for the Deaf. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hillfh.com.
