Born on October 20, 1953, in Holmes County, Mississippi, to the late John Henry Hinton Sr. and Christine (Tate) Hinton, John faced hardship early in life with the loss of his mother. Yet, he was surrounded by a loving extended family that helped nurture his faith, resilience, and enduring spirit. Raised in the church, John held a deep belief in God and the power of faith, which guided him throughout his life.
John dedicated many years to General Motors (Chevrolet), where he became known for his unwavering commitment and strong work ethic before retiring.
Outside of work, John was a man of vibrant energy and creativity. He had a passion for music, often filling the room with his joyful voice, whether he was singing his favorite tunes or belting out a karaoke classic. His family will always remember him for his love of life and the infectious joy he spread wherever he went. John also enjoyed riding his “tricked-out” bike around the neighborhood, embracing the summer months with the same enthusiasm he had for all of life’s simple pleasures.
Family was at the center of John’s world. He loved gathering for holidays, especially Thanksgiving, where he could be counted on to bring laughter, stories, and plenty of love to the table. No matter the time or distance, John’s presence at family gatherings was always a source of comfort and joy.
In the months leading up to his passing, John was cared for with love and compassion by his nephew Raheem. The family is eternally grateful for the support and kindness Raheem provided during this time.
John is survived by his children, Rakiya (Parker) Allen, SoQuitta DeShazor, and Antonio, his sister, Christine “Auntie Bobby” Hinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends, including his beloved nieces Diaaiyah Williams, Khlila Hinton, and Danielle Hinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Hinton Sr. and Christine Tate Hinton, and his grandparents, Juanita Tate Charthan and Luke Tate Sr.
John’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His laughter, his love for music, and his warmth will be deeply missed but forever cherished
