

MacGillivray, John Robert – Age 77, a lifetime resident of Flint Township, died on July 21, 2011, at his residence. John’s family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 2 until 8 pm. A memorial service with Military Rites will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Flint on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 11 am, with visitation beginning at 10 am. The Reverend Paul Yetterock will officiate. John graduated from Dye High School and attended Eastern Michigan University. He was honored by Carman-Ainsworth Athletic Hall of Fame and the Greater Flint Area Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in football. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He started his career with Chevrolet Manufacturing Plant Protection and became a Supervisor in the Chevrolet Press Metal Division where he remained until he retired. John was a 10 year elected Trustee for Flint Township. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Nina (Miller), along with his three children, which were his true joy in life: Shawn (Monty) Heston of Birmingham, IA; Mattison (Teresa) MacGillivray of Columbia, SC; and Corey (Stephanie) of Ann Arbor, MI. John had seven grandchildren: Wesley (Andrea) Bastion; Whitney (Corey) Holdbrooks; Molly (Marshall) Denney; Bradford MacGillivray; Caroline MacGillivray; Michael MacGillivray; and Alison MacGillivray. John had two great grandchildren: Riley Holdbrooks and Hudson Bastion. John was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Goldie MacGillivray, and his brothers Lawrence and James. He leaves behind nine siblings: Margaret Neighbors, Kathleen Barnhart, Linda Verdier, Joan Gilbert, Carolyn McGowen, Allen MacGillivray, Ava Neighbors, Patrick MacGillivray and Susan Jackson. John’s family is grateful to the staff of Avalon Hospice, with special recognition to Rachael, Heidi and Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Flint or Adopt-A-Pet of Fenton. A private family burial will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
