Judith Dalene Meixner, nee Colton, passed away suddenly on July 8, 2022 at her home in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Judy was born December 5, 1944, at Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. The only child of Forrest and Mable (Taylor) Colton. Judy grew up on the east side of Detroit and attended Cass Tech High School, where her emphasis of study was fashion design and creation. She attended Olivet College and Wayne State University where she studied Fine Art. She married Gerald Meixner in February 1965, and had two children, David and Lisa.
Judy held various jobs during her life to support her family, but she returned to her original passion when she retired: creating marvelous things. She was a talented writer, poet, and an amazing painter. Her artwork ranged from delicate watercolors to fiery acrylic paintings, showing whimsy and passon, as well as her love of nature and attention to detail. She had a gift for huge leaps of imagination and inspiration. Equal parts Anne Bancroft and Gracie Allen, she could go from quiet dignity to sapstick silliness sometimes in the same sentence, and this came through in everything she touched. She looked at the world with a fresh perspective, drawing on details from everything she was interested in, and made the world a more interesting place.
Her proudest achievements, though, are her children and grandchildren. She was incredibly generous with her time and energy, always offering help and ideas to others. She instilled in her family a love of knowledge, fierce determination, wild imagination, and tremendous compassion.
Judy is survived by her husband Jerry, her children David Meixner (Carolyn Sweeney) and Lisa (Ben) Benjamin, her grandchildren Alexander and Maxwell Benjamin, as well as her many cousins, friends and works of art. Her sense of humor, passion for learning and shared experiences will live on through all of them.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at the Hill Funeral Home at 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan, 48439 on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., with luncheon to follow. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Judy's name to her local PBS television station, (https://www.wcmu.org/supportwcmu/).
