Margaret Ann Visser

Margaret was born on February 26, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, the second of four children. Her love of traveling began EARLY and continued throughout her LIFE. Margaret was blessed to visit all 50 states as well as multiple foreign countries, swimming in OCEANS; collecting memories and stories along the way.

As an adult, Margaret moved to Flint, Michigan, with her first husband and daughter. After her marriage ended, she met Paul VISSER, and the two were married in 1984. Together, over the years they resided in Flint, Charlevoix, Traverse City, and Grand Blanc, Michigan as well as in Ocala, FL. Wherever they lived, Margaret EXERCISED her gift for making a house feel like home.

Margaret devoted herself to caring for Paul AFTER his diagnosis with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, serving as his primary caregiver and tending to his NEEDS until the DAY he passed away. Her love and devotion to Paul were evident in all that she did.

Shortly after Paul's death, MARGARET was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She faced the challenges that followed with grace, perseverance, and faith. Even during difficult days, she knew God had a plan for her and her faith never wavered.

Margaret loved puzzles, brain teasers, and games. She was INTENSELY competitive and could turn even the SIMPLEST challenge into a contest. At the time of her passing, she had bested her daughter in Wordle approximately 70 percent of the time. Margaret frequently created elaborate riddles, scavenger hunts, and challenges to keep the family entertained. She loved watching everyone compete, laugh, and work together. She enjoyed puzzles so much that we honor her with a SECRET message hidden in this obituary.

Margaret had a gift for making people feel welcome, loved, and important. Over the YEARS, she OPENED her home and her heart to several foreign exchange students, many of whom remained part of her life long after their exchange years ended. Lifelong friendships were created that crossed both distance and generations. She was the ULTIMATE host mother.

MARGARET was also a devoted grandmother who had a remarkable ABILITY to meet children at their level. She created a space where grandchildren felt safe, comfortable, loved, and free to be themselves. She encouraged their curiosity, fostered a love of READING, and made ordinary moments feel special. When her GRANDCHILDREN grew older, she continued sharing that love of reading by volunteering at a local school and inspiring other children.

Margaret will be remembered for her ADVENTUROUS spirit, competitive nature, quick mind, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be lovingly REMEMBERED by all who ENJOYED her presence. She will live on in the stories her family tells, the TRADITIONS she created, and the love she gave so freely.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Christina Moore (David); stepchildren Paige Barrie (Robin), Paula Wilson (Doug), Peggy Visser, and Stephen Visser (Judy); brother Jack Rudlaff and sister Karen Sciba; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Margaret's wishes, she was cremated. A visitation will be held at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc, Michigan, on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, September 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., with luncheon to follow. A private family inurnment for Margaret and Paul will take place on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, which would have been their 42nd wedding anniversary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Margaret's honor to the American Cancer Society or The Salvation Army.
