

SMITH, Marilynn Marie (Sales) - Age 86 passed away peacefully at home Thursday, December 30, 2010 with her children and grandchildren at her bedside. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 12 Noon in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church in Flint, visitation to begin at 10 AM. Rev. Paul Ytterock officiating. Burial to follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd. in Grand Blanc.
Marilynn, the daughter of Frances and Earl Sales, was born on May 28, 1924 in Pontiac, Michigan. Marilynn spent her early years in Millington, Michigan before moving to Flint. She attended Central High School, graduating in 1942. It was at Central High School where she met the love of her life, Bob Smith. Bob and Marilynn married immediately after his return from service in Europe, on June 10, 1944 and spent 56 wonderful years together.
Together, Bob and Marilynn created a wonderful, loving home for their children. Marilynn was involved in all the activities of her children and loved crafts of any kind. During the many years when she had at least one child attending Zimmerman School, Marilynn was a school volunteer, homeroom mother, scout leader and active in the PTA. She was also an accomplished seamstress and wonderful cook.
In later years, Marilynn and Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. After Bob’s death in January of 2000, Marilynn moved to Woodhaven Senior Community where she became involved in numerous activities and made many wonderful friends.
Marilynn is survived by her Son, Attorney Michael (Camelia) Smith of Flint; Daughters, Barbara (John) Woodrich of Northville and Lorrie (Peter) Conway of Louisville, Kentucky; Grandchildren, Maureen (Cullen) Smith Dickey of Flint, Andrew Woodrich of Garden City, Katherine (Chris) Woodrich Counts of Northville, Sydney Smith of East Tawas, Christopher Conway of Boston, Massachusetts, Elizabeth Woodrich of Northville and Margaret (John) Conway Gleason of Lexington, Kentucky; Great-grandchildren, Kaia and Lena Counts and Preston Dickey; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and their children. Marilynn was preceded in death by Husband, Robert Smith; Sisters, Geraldine Thomas and Yvonne Butts. The family wishes to thank the Woodhaven Community and special caregivers, Melissa and Angela, for their loving care.
