Michael was a graduate of Flint Central High School. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 as a supply truck driver, carrying out his duties with steady courage and quiet resolve. He later worked for years at GM as a paint line operator,
known for the kind of reliability and work ethic that speaks for itself. His career with GM came to a successful close when Michael retired.
Michael married the love of his life, Charlene, in 1970 at Davison United Methodist Church.
In his everyday life, Michael was a gentle, kind-hearted presence—reserved and calm, with an easy smile and a contagious laugh that could brighten a room without asking for attention. He enjoyed golf and watching the Golf Channel, along with classic television. Music was another pleasure, especially jazz and classic rock. Michael could make anyone laugh. In return, everyone always smiled at the mention of his name. He also had a fondness for sweet treats and simple, meaningful time spent with those he loved—playing cards with family, sharing cookouts, and spending time shopping and out and about. In these ordinary moments, Michael’s beloved nature was felt most clearly.
Completing his earthly journey, Michael was able to be a proud gift of life donor, saving many lives.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Ken) Gates; granddaughter, Megan Harris; brother, Timothy Coleman; and former wife, Charlene Coleman. He was preceded in death by his parents Ivan and Betty Coleman.
The family would like to thank Dr. N. Tarakji, James Wilson, and the staff at Brag Assisted living in Clio, the staff on the 4th floor ICU at Hurley Medical Center, and the Gift of Life Donor staff for caring for Michael as they did.
