

Iung, Dr. Orestes Da Silva of Flint, Michigan, age 83, died peacefully, surrounded by loving wife, Maria, and family at the Hyde Park Assisted Living facility in Flushing, Michigan on January 29, 2018.
Dr. Iung was born on June 27, 1934 in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, the son of Adalberto Iung and Hilda da Silva Ramos Iung. Dr. Iung was the 4th of seven siblings and whose father had a shipping company transporting passengers on the Jacui River, near the state capital, Porto Alegre. Dr. Iung studied at Cruzeiro do Sul (Southern Cross) a private Episcopalian boarding school for boys only, where he played soccer and basketball. He studied medicine at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria from which he graduated in 1962, and it was there in Santa Maria where he met his beloved wife Maria (Quita), to whom he was wed on February 8, 1961 and with whom he had three sons and shared 57 years of love and companionship.
Dr. Iung was a practicing physician for 51 years and specialized in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He was affiliated with McLaren Regional Medical Center (for 47 years), the Hurley Medical Center, coming from Brazil in 1963 to begin his residency in Internal Medicine, and also Saint Joseph Hospital (today Genesys Health System). He was a past president of the Michigan Heart Association and loved and served his patients faithfully for 5l years. In addition to his dear wife Maria and family, his passions were soccer, where he coached his sons and many of their friends, and tennis. Dr. Iung also attended Christ Episcopal Church and St. Paul Episcopal Church. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered especially for his kindness, generosity, and love.
Dr. Iung is survived by his wife Maria (Quita), three sons Orestes Jr. (Grand-daughter Tiffany), Ernane (wife Marla, grand-daughters Anais, Ryana), and Silvio (wife Becky, grand-children Kayla and husband John, Elijah and wife Natasha, Joshua, Valorie, Noah, Samuel, Joseph, Esther, Annie and great-grandson Asher John). Charitable contributions can be made in Dr. Iung’s name to the McLaren Flint Foundation or the Hurley Foundation Children’s Wish Fund.
