

RULE, Phyllis Marie-age 86, of Grand Blanc, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at her residence. Visitation will take place at the church Monday, September 15, 2014 from 12:30PM to 2:00PM, with a funeral service beginning at 2:00PM at Grand Blanc United Methodist Church, 515 Bush Ave., Grand Blanc, MI 48439. Pastor Patrick England officiating. Phyllis was born in Mancelona, MI on April 22, 1928 to John and Bessie (Tompkins) Hamblin. She married James Arthur Rule on June 25, 1949 in Mancelona, MI. She was a very dedicated mother and was very active in the community. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, ceramics, spending time with her family and attending church. Phyllis loved to swim and earned several badges for it. She even earned a badge for swimming 600 miles in the YWCA athletic program. She was a Cub Scouts leader, a member of Grand Blanc Heritage Museum, and Friends of the Carousel. Phyllis volunteered at Crossroads Village, Michigan School for the Deaf , as an ASL interpreter, and at the Grand Blanc Heritage Museum for many years. She also was a co-owner of “A Touch of Country”, antique store, and worked as a telephone operator and bookkeeper and seamstress. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, including her dog Bailey. She is survived by her husband James; children, Shelia Dirrim, Jerry Rule, and Mike (Mary) Rule; grandchildren, Tony, Amber (Josh) Young, and Bonnie (Donny) Griffin; brother, Larry Hamblin; sister, Beverly Evans; and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen Hamblin and Alouise Larson; brothers, Jim and Bob Hamblin.
