

Richard Charles Sutliff, age 90, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on June 23, 1936, to the late C. Carl and Doris (Berry) Sutliff. Richard lived a life marked by steady dedication and quiet purpose.
Richard graduated from Grand Blanc high school and received his associates in business administration from Mott Community College.
For thirty years, Richard devoted himself to his work as the business owner of Security First Insurance, building a career defined by commitment and responsibility. Taking a break from insurance, he and his wife Karen, owned and operated Harriman’s Dairy and Restaurant. He later continued his professional service with Potter Roose Insurance for eleven years, bringing the same reliability and care to those he worked with and served.
Richard’s life reflected the enduring importance of faith, community, and loved ones.
Outside of work, Richard found satisfaction in the simple, meaningful rhythms of home—especially in the time he spent working in his yard. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of the Flint Golf Club. Richard and his wife, Karen, shared a love of travel, returning often to Mexico and Texas, with Puerto Vallarta and Cancun holding a special place among their favorite destinations.
Those who knew and loved Richard will forever cherish all of the beautiful memories created, and will deeply miss him.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of forty-two years Karen, daughter Karen Riner, son Timothy Sutliff, grandchildren Matthew Janzer, Heather (George III) Ettinger, Kyler (Flor) Janzer and Courtney (Evan) Olson, great-grandchildren Kirk Ettinger and Amos Ettinger, James Janzer, brother and sister-in-law Michael and Judy Schulz, and sister-in-law Sharlene Brown and many loving nieces, nephews, as well as many other treasured family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents C. Carl and Doris Sutliff, son Kirk Sutliff, father and mother-in-law Bert and Bertha Miron, sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Bill Thompson, sisters and brother-in Linda and Fred Schultz, son-in-law David Riner, niece Victoria Brown and many loving family members.
In honor of Richard, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
A visitation for Richard will be held at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Rd., Grand Blanc, Michigan, on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:30 am with visitation one hour prior, with Father David Howell officiating.
