Richard Uhl was born on November 23, 1934, in Blissfield, Michigan to his late parents Thurman and Ruth Uhl. Richard attended the University of Michigan's College of Pharmacy, obtaining his degree in Pharmacology. There he met the love of his life, Janet Bliss Mason, and they married In 1956. Shortly afterward, Richard and Janet moved to Belleville Michigan where Richard owned and managed Bellevill Drug for three years. Looking for a change, Richard accepted an offer to work for the federal government at a hospital in Washington D.C., and settled in Maryland. They remained there for four years until they missed family and friends back in Michigan and wished to move back. With that goal in mind, Richard took a post at The Branch County Community Health Center in Coldwater, Michigan as the Pharmacy Head, and a new chapter began. In the thirty years he worked there he created and successfully built the hospital pharmacy. In fact, in 1990 he won Hospital Employee of the Year. Over the thirty six years he resided in Coldwater, Richard also was a member of the Coldwater School Board for three terms and was a great help to the athletics boosters for the school district. Richard was a part of many groups, and his dedication earned him numerous awards. Such as the Coldwater Man of the Year award in 1985. He was president of the Rotary Club in 1978, and a Paul Harris recipient in 1991. Richard was also the Senior warden of the St. Mark's Episcopol Church in Coldwater, Michigan. In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed playing chess and was a member of the U.S. Chess Federation. In 1972, he was the Central Michigan Open Class C Champion. Most of all, Richard enjoyed traveling with his family all over the United States and to Europe with his wife in their later years. But despite all the accolades he had received and the places he had traveled, Richards's proudest achievement was his family and their life together. The births of his two children Susan and Stephen, and his grandchildren Andrea, Michael, Ashley, and Stephany were what mattered most to him. His happiest times were those spent with his family. He was a man of kindness, giving, and faith. To those who knew him well and even those who just briefly met him, they will never forget his beaming smile and his trademark bow tie. He will be forever missed.
