

CULL, Robert Leroy, age 88 of Flint passed away August 16, 2010. Born, February 4, 1922 to Carl and Belfina Cull. Bob spent most of his life in the Lake, Fenton, MI area. He was a proud WWII veteran of the US Marine Corps and fought in the Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester and Palau’s Campaigns, the last where he was severely wounded. In 1948, he married his first wife, Barbara Berry, and they raised three children together. He attended Ferris State University, teaching for 35 years in the Carman Ainsworth District at Mandeville Jr. High School. During the summers, he worked as a Rigger out of Ironworkers Local 25. During his time spent in the Marine Corps, Bob became involved in Boxing and won many bouts and titles. With his brother Elton, he formed the Lake Fenton Boxing Club in 1969, were he was a trainer, referee and judge for the Golden Gloves and AAU boxing programs. He also served as a Justice of the Peace from 1965 to 1967. He leaves behind his adoring wife Norma. The couple met in Australia in 1943 and were separated for 50 years before meeting again in 1993; they married October 15, 1994 in Australia. Also, his children, Vance Robert of Florida and Yvonne (Jim) Laing of Linden; Brother, Elton Cull of Flint; Grandchildren, Jamie (Val) Taylor, Erica Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Nathan (Vanessa) Cull and eight (one on the way) great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife Barbara; Son, George C. ‘Joey’ Cull; Brothers, Curt (Ruth), Harry (Mable), Ray (Helen), Ernie (Libby) and Carl (Kay) Cull; Sister, Beth (Spence) Carpenter and sister-in-law, Chris Giles Cull, all of Flint. At Mr. Cull’s request no formal services will be held and memorial service announced at a later time. A special thank you to staff at Maple Place that have taken care of Robert for Nearly 8 years.
