Robert (Bob) Thomas Erpelding, 70, returned home on September 2, 2018. Bob was born on September 2, 1948 to Donald and Mary Erpelding of Detroit. First and foremost, Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a patriot and veteran of the United States Navy, having served on the USS Yellowstone, USS Topeka and the USS Forrest Sherman during his service between 1966-1970. After serving in the Navy, Bob worked at General Motors from which he retired in 2006 as a manufacturing engineer. As a dedicated father, Bob coached many baseball and softball teams in Metamora and Lapeer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Lapeer, where he and his wife were married in 1971. Bob is survived by his wife Laura Anne Erpelding (Daily), his son Jarrod Joseph Erpelding, daughter-in-law Meghan Nicole Erpelding (Lennox), granddaughters Hannah Amber Erpelding (13) and Grace Marie Erpelding (12), brother John Erpelding and sister Jane Poniatowski (Erpelding). Bob’s return to heaven reunites him with his loving daughter, Amber Marie Erpelding. Bob is also preceded in death by both of his parents, and his dearest uncle, Father Martin Erpelding. Visitation will be held at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI, on Wednesday, September 5 from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, with visitation held prior to mass at Holy Family from 10-11 a.m. Following the funeral mass, Bob will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Family and friends are invited to Jarrod and Meghan Erpelding's house.
