OBITUARY
Robert A. Somers
March 4, 1948 – January 13, 2021
Robert A. Somers, age 72 passed away on January 13, 2021. Robert was born on March 4, 1948 to the late Seward (Al) and Gladys Somers. He graduated from Lake Fenton High School, DeVry Institute of Technology of Chicago and later Texas Bible College in 2000. He has served on the board of Birmingham Bloomfield Metro North Credit Union for several years. Robert filled our hearts with love and compassion for others. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed his mornings at Mike's Coney Island enjoying a cup of coffee with his buddies. During the summer, he tended his garden and often road his tractor "his horse" enjoying the sights of the land. Robert loved to evangelize. He loved the Lord and sharing His love with everyone. Robert was positive, always up beat; living each day to the fullest. He spent many late nights preparing and Sunday mornings working with his beloved Sunday School students. He always reminded us “that’s a good thing”, and that hope and positivity are a choice. He treasured every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pepaw snuggles are the best. Robert was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughter, Jessica (Joe) Ward; son, Scott (Hassie) Harder; grandchildren: Mia, Emily, Mason; and many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Little Mary's Hospitality House at www.littlemarys.org or Transplant House of Cleveland at www.transplanthouseofcleveland.org in memory of Robert.
Visitation will be held 3pm to 7pm Sunday, January 17 at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc, MI.
In compliance with state and local mandates please practice social distancing, wear a facial covering, and follow gathering limitations while visiting.
The funeral and burial will be limited to immediate family and will be held on Monday. Interment will be at Crestwood Cemetery.

Bob was a good friend and neighbor on Torrey Road. We rode the same bus to the (original) Lake Fenton School in the 1950s and 60s. His mother, Gladys, was a good friend of my mom’s (Ruth Judson). Both loved their flower gardens and caring for others. Bob was always quiet and reserved and had a ready smile, just like his mom. He overcame many health issues as a child. We lost touch over the years but I can tell he lived a good life and he enjoyed the love of his family. My condolences to his family.

Beverly we have known each other a long time. I only knew Robert for a few years. He was a great Christian man that lived the way he spoke. He definitely will be in that beautiful place called Beulah Land! We will miss Robert greatly. Why God decided to take him now we will know some day. He was a great blessing in my life. I will miss his positive attitude about the Church. We talked many times about our Lord and Savior Jesus on the phone. He was a little BIG Man!

Robert was always a bright star. Always had a smile. I appreciated his participation and input in our board meetings and our personal discussions afterwards. He had a great sense of humor. He will be missed

Beverly has been a friend to me for well over 40 years when she met Robert her whole life became a joy again. Going to church wasn't just going to church it was a time of growing and companionship. He was the diamond in the locket of her heart, he listened to her when she needed an ear to bend. He took his belief in God and climbed the stairs to heaven and with the joy that belief brought he helped mold and keep the family whole. He never met a stranger, when someone came along he would listen for a few minutes and then met them on their grounds. He was the family's tower and Beverly his flower. We haven't been able to see each other as often but our conversations always started where we left off...loved ya, buddy, gonna miss the aura of you being there but we will see you soon...keep the bleachers warm.
