Russell was a proud Vietnam veteran whose deep love of country and steady sense of duty remained a defining part of his life. That same commitment guided him through a long career with General Motors at the Fisher Body Shop, where he earned the respect of those who worked alongside him through reliability, perseverance, and quiet strength.
In service to others beyond the workplace, Russell dedicated 28 years to the Board of Trustees at UAW Local 1292, offering consistent leadership and a principled voice. He was also a member of Genesee Road Church and Lighthouse Spirit of God, where his faith and devotion found a lasting home.
Russell found simple, genuine joy in the things he loved. Playing bingo, taking pictures, and admiring old cars; interests that reflected an attentive spirit and an appreciation for life’s enduring details.
Russell is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; his parents, Ottis and Rebecca; and his grandson, Luke Cummings.
Visitation will be held at Genesee Road Church of God, 4344 N Genesee Rd, Flint, Michigan 48506, on August 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm at the same location. A committal service with Military Honors will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 11:00am at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, 9506 N Dort Hwy, Mt Morris, Michigan 48458.
