Vera was born on November 20, 1928 in Detroit, moving to Bear Lake, Michigan when she was eight years old, and later to Traverse City when she was 12. She was the daughter of Emil and Freda Grant; sister to Don (Tina) and Margery (Warren).
Married on March 27, 1948 to Francis E. Rohdy, they celebrated 72 years together.
While dad dutifully worked 12 hour days, seven days a week in the shop, mom was also working. At home, she wallpapered, painted, made curtains and clothes, knitted, crocheted, and worked at Hills Orchard in Montrose. Later, she worked at Winchester Hospital, which led to the Genesee County Health Department. They retired as soon as they could and were blessed to be retired longer than they worked! She then took up quilting, made pine needle baskets, and got back to canning. Always, they danced.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence (Sally) and daughter, Karen (Charles); grandchildren: John, Heather (Jeff), Christina (Joe), Jonathan, and Dr. Jillan (Mike); five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She is the last of her family, but survived by six Rohdy in-laws: Marilyn, Caryol, Barbara, Don, Fred, Patricia, and their spouses. She is also survived by 44 nieces and nephews. She loved being part of that big rowdy family!!
Memorial services are planned for this winter in Matlacha, Florida and another in the spring in Traverse City.
For those desiring, memorial contributions would be loved by any Hospice branch of your choice.
