

THOMAS, Victoria Joy – of Flint / Lennon, age 85, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at Fostrian Manor after a lengthy illness. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held from 11 am to 1 pm Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, MI. Joy was born in Flint, Michigan on October 19, 1926. When she was 5 years old her family moved to Atlanta, Michigan to farm. Joy was Salutatorian of her high school class and received a full scholarship to Central Michigan University. Joy married Gerald (Tommy) Thomas in Angola, Indiana in 1947. She later went back to school and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mrs. Thomas taught school for 15 years at Beecher Schools, mainly at Buell Elementary as a 4th grade teacher. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Surviving are: children, Dr. Gerald (Carol) Thomas, Mary Beth (John) Atkinson, Michael (Virginia) Thomas, and Jeanne (Bruce) de Graaf; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean, Jacqueline, and Joann. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Tommy) Thomas and by her brothers, Norman and Fred. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.brownfh.com.
