Willis Dowdy

DOWDY, Willis, age 87, of Lapeer, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Genesys Hospice in Goodrich. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Goodrich, 6116 S. State Road, Goodrich, Pastor Kevin Holland officiating. Interment to follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon until time of service. Willis was born on October 31, 1924 in Dexter, Missouri, son of the late Odin and Mary Emily (Mayberry) Dowdy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II and the Korean War. Willis retired from General Motors Grand Blanc Plant in 1984 as a tool and die maker. He was born again on Easter Sunday in April, 1991, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Goodrich, MI. He is survived by his wife Silva Dowdy, son Gary & wife Ann Dowdy of Shawnee, OK, daughter Janis & husband Gene Welch of Lapeer, daughter Carol & husband Irvin Fowler of Grand Blanc, and a son Roger Dowdy of Columbia, TN. Also survived by many grandchildren and great children. In addition to his parents, Willis was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Berger Dowdy and a son, Steven Paul Dowdy.
