Amelia was born on February 23, 1934, in Grand Junction, to Lucio and Celia (Espinosa) Colunga. She spent her childhood in Grand Junction, and although she lived in places like Salt Lake City and Reno, Nevada for a time, she always made her way home to Mesa County. She has lived in Fruita since 1977.
Amelia, or “Mollie”, worked at Gay Johnsons in Grand Junction for many years, and worked for over a decade at Ultronix as a night supervisor. Later in life she worked as a home caregiver to a few clients. Amelia retired at the age of 65.
After retirement, Amelia was able to finally enjoy her home in Fruita. Nothing made her happier than digging in the dirt for planting every year. Winter’s end made her anxious for spring’s planting. She was also an expert seamstress, and reconstructed vintage quilts. Amelia was a talented writer. Her many journals on family history, and stories through the decades, are waiting to be copied for her children. She will be missed deeply and remembered by all for her strong will, loyalty to family, and teaching by example to never give up no matter what life throws your way.
Amelia is survived by her sons, Guy Miera of Sparks, Nevada, Kim Zentmyer, and Edward Zentmyer III, both of Fruita; daughters, Laura Miera-Verniers of Santa Rosa, California, Elaine Davis of Grand Junction, and Trixie Sena of Clifton; brothers, Angel Colunga of Grand Junction, and Daniel Colunga of North Carolina; sister, Helen Pacheco of Grand Junction; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maria “Becky” May; and grandson, Joshua Critchfield.
Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens.
