Andrew William Hutmacher
October 16, 1939 - January 24, 2016
Andrew Hutmacher, 76, passed away on January 24, 2016, in Grand Junction, CO.
He was born and raised in Freeport, IL, the only son of Paul and Victoria (Rozak) Hutmacher. He went on to receive his BA from St. Ambrose College and his Masters from Western State College.
In 1974, he was married to Dianne Iverson in Cheyenne, WY. They have two children.
Andy started his teaching career in Freeport before teaching in Westminster and Aspen, Colorado. He was later employed by Mesa County School District as an administrator and middle school teacher from 1978-2001. Many of his students and colleagues may remember that he was always dressed in a suit and tie throughout his decades of teaching.
In addition to education, Andy held a variety of other jobs, along with numerous hobbies. A part-time professional photographer, he fell in love with cameras while working in a small camera shop in 1965. He photographed weddings, senior portraits, architecture, and even portraits of the Grand Valley's homeless. For 15 years, Andy was a proud Wednesday volunteer at the Soup Kitchen. He was also an avid skier (even a ski school teacher at Buttermilk Mountain), runner (even having a streak of 11 consecutive years of running), woodworker, joke teller, and Democrat. A self-proclaimed ""neat freak"", he also loved polishing shoes and washing cars.
He leaves his wife, Dianne Hutmacher; daughters, Jennifer Brown of Houston, TX, and Amy Hutmacher of San Francisco, CA. He also has two grandchildren, Noah and Isabel Brown.
A memorial service celebrating Andy's life will be held at Callahan Edfast at 4:00 p.m., on Friday, January 29th.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Andy's favorite charity, the Soup Kitchen via Grand Valley Catholic Outreach, 245 1st Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
