Andrew Alexander Nara, 74, passed away on October 24, 2025 in Grand Junction, Co. Born October 8, 1951 in Germany, Andrew was adopted by Edwin and Hazel Nara. His father’s military service took the family to various locations in Europe and the U.S., including a return to Germany for a time. Andrew’s formative experiences instilled in him a deep appreciation for animals, particularly horses, which became a lifelong passion. Andrew graduated from Grand Junction High School and went on to attend Colorado State
University, where he obtained a degree in microbiology. His professional life reflected his enduring connection to the land and livestock. He worked for a large animal vet on the front
range as well as cattle ranches in Colorado and Nebraska before taking a position with Xcel Energy. Even while working full-time, he continued raising cattle, an endeavor that remained close to his heart throughout his life. After retiring, Andrew spent his time training horses and creating horse tack, a craft that allowed him to combine skill with creativity and continue his bond with animals.
Andrew married Lydia Eversol in 1971, with whom he had two children, Ben and Melanie. They later divorced. He was also married to Kate Kirkpatrick for a short time. Andrew is lovingly
remembered by his son, Ben Nara (Heather); daughter, Melanie (Nara) Hylan (Chad); and grandsons Levi and Walter Hylan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Hazel Nara; sister, Kimberly Hunt; and first wife, Lydia Eversol.
A memorial service will be held at a later date
