Bennie J. Hatch died peacefully at Eagle Ridge in Grand Junction, CO on December 29, 2017. He was born in Grand Junction. He lived in Grand Valley, CO (Parachute, CO).When he was 17, he worked for Kress Five and Dime as a stock boy. He took a fancy to a pretty counter girl named Opal Dixie Hedges. He asked her out on a double date to the movies. They were wed on October 23, 1949. They shared 68 years of marriage. They had five boys together, Danny (Carla), Bennie Lee (Susie), Thomas (Heather), David (Kathleen) and Edwin (Deborah) Hatch. Ben was a true renaissance man, mastering the art of leather craft when he worked for Champion boots and Saddlery. He also enjoyed woodworking, painting in oils and acrylics, and photography. He had a passion for music, collecting records and sheet music. Ben was a D.J. in Wyoming, and played bass instruments for country western bands. In 1969, Ben took his love of raising tropical fish to a new level when he and Opal opened a store front in the front part of their garage, naming it Western Slope Aquatics. He is survived by two sisters, Earlene and Barbara; his wife, Opal; five children; eleven grandchildren; eleven great –grandchildren; and one great- great- grandchild. Rest in peace, Grandpa, rest in peace.
