On September 2, 2012, mom joined the love of her life, Vearl West, after being separated for 28 years. She passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital with her children by her side. Bettie was born September 30, 1924, in Salina, Kansas to Thomas Edward and Minnie Ellen (Fitch) Imler. She spent her childhood in Salina with her two brothers and four sisters. Bettie married Vearl in Salina, Kansas in August of 1940. She and Vearl raised nine children. For the majority of her life she was a stay at home mom. When she wanted something extra special she would go out and get a job long enough to pay for it then she was back home full time again. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Vearl; son, Jerry Lowell; daughter, Sierra Sue; granddaughter, Nikki Jean, and grandsons, Eric and William Foster. She is survived by one son and six daughters, Thomas West of Grand Junction; Velores Reed of Grand Junction; Cheryl and Ted Habliston of Grand Junction; Sonjia and Brian Hunt of Loma; Rebecca and Alan Giles of Loma; Shawn West of Denver, and TattiAnn and Kenneth Gonzales of Grand Junction, along with 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at Martin Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to Noon with a graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Mom was the glue that helped to hold our family together and she will be greatly missed by all.
