

Betty Jean DeWitt, 81, passed away in Grand Junction, CO, on November 17, 2019. She was born July 22, 1938 to Grace Virginia Trembly and Luman Ray Hersey on Hersey Farm at Beecher Island, CO. She spent her childhood in Beecher Island, CO, and graduated from high school in Wray, CO. She married Keith Clark DeWitt in Beecher Island on May 21, 1956. Betty Jean has been a resident of Palisade and Grand Junction for the last 25 years, having previously lived in Gillette, WY, and Craig, CO.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher, and Church Treasurer. She was also a 4-H leader in cooking, a clerk at Ben Franklin, a volunteer at Craig Memorial Hospital in charge of newborn pictures, and owned a daycare for five years. Her interests included traveling, camping, rock collecting, gardening, crafts, bears, dolls, and stuffed animals.
No one loved life more than Betty Jean, both good and bad. She loved the good times and learned from the bad. She loved her family more than anything in this world, and especially loved being a grandmother. She loved all her friends and loved children. Betty Jean always tried to be the best person, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend that she could be. She said that “Life is short, love is long and if you love life, life loves you back.”
She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith, in 2012. Survivors include her son, Randee (Deanna); daughters, Rhonda (William) Gilland and Rene (Tony); and grand- and great-grandchildren, Joy, Rhiannon, Joseph, Matteah, Emeral, Ezran, and Exander.
A memorial service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Friday, November 22, 2019, at 3PM
