Betty Marie Simpson

Betty M. Simpson beloved mother and grandmother age 99 passed away on July 23, 2026. She was born at home on Kannah Creek July 7, 1927 to George and Nettie Goldsborough their fifth child. She attended Purdy Mesa School and Grand Junction High School. Betty married Donald Dowd on October 18, 1943. They spent their married life in the Kannah Creek area and purchased the place where Betty was born. Donald passed away December 3, 1983. Betty is survived by her children Donald Jr. (Angie), Ben (Laura), Frances Baer (Ron), and Patty Lee. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter in-law Lela Dowd and her grandson Jason Lee. On July 27, 1992 Betty married John “Than” Simpson. With that union she added stepson Jody Simpson (Judy) step daughter Ann Alderman-Hegre, step daughter Bonnie (Lloyd) Wiggins, stepson Gary Simpson and 20 step grandchildren 34 step great grandchildren and 8 great great great grandchildren. Grandma enjoyed gardening, making quilts for her grandchildren’s graduations and marriages, making Christmas cookies and candies, and feeding the birds.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 31, 2026, 9:00 AM at Martins Mortuary 550 North Ave, Grand Junction Co.
