She was born in Fort Morgan, CO on August 16, 1932. Her parents were Ruth and Bernard Goecker and she had two older sisters: Betty and Jeannie.
She attended Fort Morgan High School where she was valedictorian of her senior class, and also prom queen her senior year. She was a gifted athlete and participated in field hockey, ballet, swimming, ping pong, ice skating, and tennis which was her passion.
She graduated from UNC with a BS in Physical Education. While there she participated in synchronized swimming and a host of other sports, tennis still being her favorite. She also met her husband Richard (Dick) Porter whom she marries after they graduated. They were married for 60 years before his passing in 2015.
She is survived by her children; Kirk, Krisann Wist (Doug), Kimberly Chrisman (Mark), Kerilynn Davis (Bill), Kelley Henke (Jeff), Kyle (Kelly); 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters.
After several moves in her early married life, North Carolina, Greeley, Gilcrest, and LaSalle, Fort Morgan was where she put down her roots and raised her family of 6 children. She was a devoted mother, homemaker, incredible seamstress, fabulous cook, tennis teacher, Christian and overall an amazing woman who loved her family, God and country. And of course tennis.
She was a woman with strong morals and work ethics, and raised her children with these values. When she wasn't playing sports she loved to garden, read, work crossword puzzles and walk her dogs. Her love of sport was passed down to her children and there was never a day that she wasn't willing to play tennis, baseball, ping pong, or go ice skating with them. She loved holidays and always made sure each one was celebrated with delicious homemade food and lots of laughter.
She and her husband moved to Gilbert, AZ when he retired but eventually moved back to Colorado where she resided.
She will be forever loved and missed and remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Hope West Hospice, Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction, CO on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00am. Reception to follow.
