Byron was born in Uravan, Colorado to Frank E. and Mary Lou (Hibbert) Morgan on August 2, 1957. He passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado on December 1, 2021 at the age of 64. Byron was the second child in the family. He loved telling people he was born in a ghost town.
Byron attended school in Nucla, Colorado, graduating in 1975. After graduating he persued a degree in Gunsmithing from Trinidad State Junior College. In 1981 he graduated with an AAS in Gunsmithing, then returned to school to complete an Advanced Gunsmithing course in 1982.
Byron was an outdoorsman who loved to hike, hunt, gather mushrooms, fish and just be in the mountains with his family. He could hike for miles and this was proven when he walked from the homeplace in Nucla to visit the love of his life, Tandie, in Uravan. He loved to work the land on the farm growing crops and in later years to lovingly build works of art from wood using only hand tools.
Byron and Tandie Van Sell were married on December 1, 1979 at Trinity Baptist Church in Naturita, Colorado.
Byron was an accomplished concrete finisher and after working for several contractors all over the western US he returned home to Nucla to start his own concrete contracting business, Morgan Concrete Construction and a bird hunting preserve, Quail Run.
Byron is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tandie Lea; daughters, Tristan Lee Morgan (Sterling Clark) of Pueblo, Colorado, Toni Rae Morgan of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Sydni Sue (Nathan) Rice of Douglas, Wyoming. Byron also leaves eight beautiful grandchildren: Ethin James Brady, Morgan Li Brady, Parker Rhea Oswald, Byron Oden Lambes, Raelynn Marie Rosas, Zoey Sage Rice, Colton William Rice, and Kylie Mae Rice. They were his pride and joy and he was their “Papa”.
Byron will be greatly missed by his sisters, Patricia Morgan of Nulca, Colorado and Lori McKinney of Collbran, Colorado as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank E. and Mary Lou Morgan and his brother Michael.
Honorary Pallbearers are Nathan Rice, Sterling Clark, Mark Bucher, Aaron Morgan, Ethin Brady, Byron Lambes and Colton Rice.
