Carl William Mitchell
October 22, 1934 - August 23, 2015
Carl was born to Clarence and Ardama (Edens) Mitchell in Charleston, WV. His father's job took the family, also including two sisters and a brother, many places, one being Israel, where Carl started first grade. His father was a tremendous influence in his life, always teaching him many things about life; Carl continued that tradition with his children and grandchildren.
After graduating Centenary College in 1955, Carl attended S.M.U. in Dallas, TX, where he met and married his wife, Sheron. Three children later and a successful career in lighting design, they moved their family in 1983 to Snowmass Village in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, then on to Grand Junction in 1998, where they continued to live an active, abundant life into retirement.
An extraordinary man was Carl. He loved life and people! He cherished his family, and his friends! His talents and creativity took him many exciting places in life, not only in his career, but also through his passionate love of the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing. His favorite places were on a mountain with binoculars, scoping the land, in the river fly-fishing, around a campfire with family, friends, and in later years, just with Sheron. His career brought him much joy and satisfaction, with international travels for clients, who also became his lifelong friends. His kindness, generosity and fun-loving spirit were far-reaching in his 80 years of living. He will be sorely missed by many.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife, Sheron; children, Denise Wright, Mark (Maureen) Mitchell, Amy (Rowdy) Shiflet; grandchildren, Mitchell, Deanna, Jordan, Kiva, Emma, Jay (Amy), Brendon, Ruby, Madison, Zac, Derek (Mel), Jessica; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Nall; Millican brothers, Bill (Valorie), Glen (kathy), Allan (Deanna), many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty; brother, John, and brother-in-law, Butch.
Please join us in a Celebration of Carl's life, Saturday, October 24, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at the Redlands United Methodist Church, 527 Village Way, Grand Junction, CO.
