Carmel Tapia passed away June 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a sudden illness, she was 67.
Carmel was born on May 28, 1945 in Fruita, CO from the union of Frutoso and Ophelia Martinez.
Carmel had previously lived in Salt Lake City, UT and retired to Palisade, CO, five years ago. She was previously married to Ray Baros and they later divorced but still enjoyed talking on the telephone. Ray preceded her in death on August 8, 2004.
Carmel enjoyed Spanish music and watching Novellas on television. She would spend her free time with the elderly as a Personal Care Provider or activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a very special place in her heart for grandson Dominick. Family and friends remember her ability to speak her mind, if something needed to be said, she would say it.
Carmel leaves behind her three children; a son; Tyrone J. Martinez of Phoenix, AZ, two daughters; Raylene Velarde and Lisa Campos both of Clifton, CO, a brother; Paco Chacon of Fruita, CO, three sisters; Alice Montano of Grand Junction, CO, Sophie Chacon of CA, Marcella Aragon of Clifton, CO, Priscilla Studt of Grand Junction, CO, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, cousins; Eulemia Romero, Elisa Shepherdson, Dora Martinez and her faithful loving dog “Sally”.
A celebration of Carmel’s life will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Martin Mortuary.
