Catherine Dere

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.

Mrs. Dere was a telephone operator.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald; six sons, Ken Basinger, Marty Basinger, John Basinger, Roger Basinger, Kevin Basinger, and Brian Dere; two daughters, Kelly Uribe, and Suzanne Pyle; one brother, Martin Etcheverry; two sisters, Martha Johnson, and Joy Self; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Catherine Dere

November 27, 1937 - March 7, 2016

Catherine Dere was born to Martin and Stella Etcheverry on November 27, 1937, in Flagstaff, AZ. She was the oldest of four children, Joy, Martha, and Martin. She graduated Valedictorian of her class from Camp Verde High School in Arizona in 1956.

Catherine married William Russell Basinger and had six children, Ken, Marty, John, Kelly, Roger,and Kevin. After William's passing, Catherine and her children moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1968. Catherine married Gerald Dere in 1971, and had two more children, Suzanne and Brian.

Catherine was known for her generous heart. She loved her lord and savior and lived her life always giving to others. She spent her time volunteering at Catholic Outreach, as well as in the labor and delivery, and the mother and baby units at St. Mary's Hospital.

Catherine also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, painting, sewing, and quilting which she looked forward to doing weekly with her sisters.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Stella Etcheverry. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Gerald Dere; three siblings, Joy Self, Martha (Bill) Johnson, and Martin (Lillian) Etcheverry; eight children, Ken (Stacy) Basinger, Marty (Marianne) Basinger, John Basinger, Kelly (Ernie) Uribe, Roger (Rochelle) Basinger, Kevin Basinger, Suzanne (John) Pyle, and Brian (Jennifer) Dere; grandchildren, Kendi Basinger, Kyle (Katy)Basinger, Amanda and Tyler Basinger, Cody and Jake Basinger, Lila, Jack and Matthew Dere; great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Trevor Hochevar, and Austin and Aubrey Basinger, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held March 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., Callahan-Edfast, 2515 Patterson Road.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Catherine's name to the Catholic Outreach Program 245 S. 1st Street Grand Junction, CO 81501
