Ray was born to John Clarence and Dorothy Bauman on December 12, 1945. When Bro. Bauman was 16 yrs. old he asked the Lord to save him and a few years later turned his life to the Lord and ministry. In 1963, Ray married “his sweetest one”, Donna, a match made in Heaven. They celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary this past September. Ray and Donna went on to have 3 children. Ray was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. He loved his family, the church, Treasure Mountain Bible Camp and sharing Christ with as many people as possible.
Ray loved to work and tried to get those all around him to do the same. After living in AZ where he finished his Senior yr. of high school they moved to Glenwood Springs, CO where he started his Meat cutting career working for City Market. During this time Ray was very active in the Immanuel Baptist Church. Ray served as S.S. Superintendent, S.S. Teacher, Youth Group pastor, & Deacon. The next project for Ray was to buy some property and build a 30 space Mobile Home Park, called Mountain Meadows Trailer Park on Highway 82 between Glenwood and Carbondale. He then started a Water Softener business. After about 9 yrs. of operating theses businesses, he felt the call to go to Bible College. So he sold the businesses and moved the family to Chattanooga TN to attend Tennessee Temple Bible School. Ray graduated with 2 degrees in 3 yrs. Upon graduation he moved his family to Crested Butte, CO to start a church. He believed that if he built a house the community would receive him and family better. After 2 years they felt God leading them to Carbondale where they built and started Crystal River Baptist Church. Ray and his family were there for 14 ½ yrs. Many souls were saved and 15 young people went off to Bible College, including his two older children. During that time the Lord impressed upon Ray’s heart to find property and start a Youth Camp called “Treasure Mountain Bible Camp”. He felt the Lord leading him to give his inheritance money to make the initial purchase of the camp. Through many trying years including mudslides, avalanches and a continuing lack of funds Ray stood true to his moto “never quit”. Many souls were saved, many rededications, 25 couples met at camp and got married, along with 4 weddings conducted through the 32 years that the Bauman’s served the Lord. Only the Lord knows all who were touched through this ministry.
Ray is survived by Donna “His Sweetest One”. Three wonderful Christian children. Charlotte Birdsong and her husband Kevin who pastor in Tillamook, OR; Charles Raymond (Chuck) Bauman Jr. and his wife Anita who are missionary in France and Daniel and his wife Bridget who live in Rifle. Seven Grandchildren Kyle, Keith, Kristin, Jessica, Abigale, Emily and Madison. Five Great Grandchildren Carson, Elliot, Adelaide, Felicity and Dakota.
