Dawson was born on March 31, 1996, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Wesley R. and Belinda M. (Cossins) Thomason. He spent his childhood in Grand Junction and graduated from Grand Junction High School. Dawson moved to Texas to serve in the US Air Force. During his time there he became a Master Sargeant and was proud of his service as the Production Superintendent in the MXS 317th Maintenance Squadron. He loved working on the C130J aircraft the most. On base he was known as “the teacher”, always willing to share his knowledge with anyone. His favorite saying was “shit’ll buff”. Dawson was competitive and enjoyed jiu-jitsu, playing disc golf, and participating in the Norwegian Foot March, an 18.6-mile march in an approved uniform and boots, carrying a dry rucksack weighing at least 25 pounds. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his son.
Dawson is survived by his parents, Wesley and Belinda Thomason, of Grand Junction; his son, Hayden Thomason, of Grand Junction; sister, Tianna (Ruben) Crunk, and their daughters, Shannon Crunk and Evelyn Crunk, all of Grand Junction. He was preceded in death by Jack D. and Evelyn Cossins; Lyndon D. Thomason; and Virginia L. Forkner.
A military honors service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
He was loved by so many, he loved back just as much. “Miss you, love you, mean it.”
