

Deva Darlene Young was born on June 7th, 1929 to Joseph Albert Smith and Clara Viola Smith in Palisade, Colorado. She married Otho Edward Young on July 1st, 1961. Darlene and Otho raised two children together.
Darlene received an Associates degree from Mesa College. During her life she was a homemaker and also taught school in Uravan and Collbran and served as a substitute teacher in Cortez and Grand Junction. In addition, she worked for a time at the Atomic Energy Compound in Grand Junction.
She was an accomplished cook, baker, seamstress, and gardener. She showed her love for her family through her cooking. She taught her daughter and two grand daughters how to sew and helped the latter with sewing projects for county and state fairs. She loved cats, and through the years several strays cats took up residence at the Young household, in addition to a couple that were adopted from the local shelter.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Otho Edward Young; son, Douglas Edward Young (Jill) of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter, Susan Lynn Young of Denver, Colorado; sister, Mary Rhoades of Grand Junction, Colorado; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
