

Donald “Don” Purdy passed away August 8, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born April 16, 1929, in Russell, Minnesota. He was a member of the Greatest Generation, a Navy Seabee stationed in the Pacific Islands in 1945 and 1946.
He married Vondell Cannedy in 1949, and they moved to Glenwood Springs in 1954, when Don was hired to head the operations side of Holy Cross Electric Association. He was instrumental in the development and construction of the electric infrastructure in the Roaring Fork, Colorado River, Eagle River Valleys, and a member of the Management Team until his retirement in 1986.
Don was a hardworking and dedicated man and always got the job done no matter what the challenge. Upon retirement, Don and Von moved to Grand Junction. He was an enthusiastic skier, pilot, inventor, golfer, and a wonderful mentor to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by wife, Vondell; son, Curtis (Mariette); daughter, Kim (Bill); grandson, Karl (Sara); granddaughter, Kristin (Michael); great-grandson, Noah; and great-granddaughter, Allison. He was preceded in death by his son, Lynn; grandson, Jason; and parents, Roger and Bernice Purdy.
Services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 11 am at Martin Mortuary, 550 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or your favorite charity.
