Other survivors include his daughter Dawn {lives local} and two sons, Dennis (Janice) and David (Pamera). He was preceded in death by a grandson Eric but is survived by 7 grandchildren; Sarah {lives locally}(Michael), David (Stacey), Samara (Kyle), Jason (Angela), Jordan (Dani), Jonah and Jaidra. He had 19 great-grandchildren including Gabriel {lives locally}that lit up his life.
Dwayne was a Veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War and received Recognition and awards for Good Conduct and also a Korean Banner. After his service, he worked for the Dept. of Commerce Civil Aeronautics Administration and then the Federal Dept. of Transportation/Federal Aviation Administration as a Computer Analyst in Washington DC. He retired in 1987 after 34 1/2 years. Afterwards, later in 1987, they moved to Colorado. In 1989 his daughter moved from CA to join them to be closer and to assist them as needed.
In earlier years he had flown/piloted his family in a small plane to South Dakota, which was an experience that will always be treasured.
Dwayne was deeply and completely devoted to his Faith in the Lord and to his family. His day always began and ended with devotions and prayer. He loved listening to Deloris singing and playing hymns on their piano. He always gave unconditional love and support to all of his children and family. He took care of his wife as she became disabled until his hospitalization in June 2021.
He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Rockies and also football and basketball. Board/card games were often an evening activity. He was always doing something on his computer. He was extremely organized which was and continues to be greatly appreciated by Dawn.
In later years when preparing meals became more difficult, they began going frequently to a couple of fast food establishments. As time went on, staff at those places knew them and even knew what they would order and add special items. The staff loved them and missed them when they stopped coming.
In June 2021, after a brief hospitalization, due to needing more assistance than they were able to receive at home, He and Deloris went to live at Larchwood Inns Rehab and Nursing facility in Grand Junction, CO. Staff said he never lost his sense of humor and they always loved his smile.
Dwayne is in his heavenly home now, rejoicing with his Lord and Savior and the angels. We take comfort in believing and knowing that we will see him again one day. You were truly loved and be greatly missed.
Dawn wants to express her deepest gratitude to the Larchwood staff and to Hope West Hospice staff that were involved in his care for the love and care that was given to him during his stay and who were with him at the end of his earthly journey, and also to those who continue to care for Deloris at this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, any donations would be appreciated for HopeWest Hospice at hopewestco.org under the donate tab. Please choose the Grand Junction location and the program with the greatest need or Heirlooms for Hospice on the same site. Thank you.
