Elroy was born January 7, 1947, in Warroad Minnesota. He was raised there with his 4 siblings on a family farm. He attended college both before and after his service in the Army where he was a medic. After his time in the service, he moved to Denver Colorado to work at Boddington Lumber Company. He met his wife, Patricia Turner at Denver First Church of the Nazarene and became a father to two daughters and then moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where he continued to work for Boddington Lumber company.
Elroy was a successful salesman and business manager and relied on his desire to find a connection point with people. He would keep up with local sports in the towns he had clients in just to connect with those people in a way that mattered to them. His small-town roots came out in many small and large ways in his life. To know him meant you were on the lookout for a pun or a joke he was getting ready to tell you if the conversation was right. And while he lived for a laugh, he also cared about what you had to say and what was happening in your life.
Elroy gave back to his community through his volunteerism with the Gideons, his service to his church, and his consistent support for local coffee shops and bookstores. If Grand Junction had a coffee shop/bookstore combo he may have never gone home.
In addition to his parents, Elroy was preceded in death by his sisters Rosella Meleshko and Carol Pearce.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Thiessen who he adored and loved; his daughters Julie Thiessen (Donald Clarke) and Lisa Peck (Ben Peck) who he told he loved so very often; his grandson Preston Peck (Ciarra Peck) who was also his friend; his adventurous and loved sister Alva Larsen; and his brother Harold Thiessen (Lois Thiessen) who he loved and admired.
Elroy will be remembered at a Celebration of Life service on June 23, 2026, at 11:00 at the Palisade Church of the Nazarene. After the service, he will be honored and interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 3:00.
