

Steve was born on October 4, 1938, in Dixon, New Mexico, to Avelino A. and Juanita M. (Sanchez) Duran. He spent his childhood in Monte Vista and attended Monte Vista High. He enlisted in the US Army in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1962. Steve resided in Colorado Springs before settling in Grand Junction in 1967. He married Sally M. Archuleta; they divorced in 1982. He later married Janie M. Long on October 1, 1993, in Mesa County. Steve was a member of the Catholic church, and was employed at a sawmill, restaurant, and later the VA Hospital laundry for 15 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and camping; and was an avid Broncos fan.
Steve is survived by his wife, Janie Duran; children, Steven R. (Lori Bauer) Duran, Charyl Blurton, and Susan Duran; brothers, Frank J. (Georgia Archuleta) Duran, and Anthony Duran; and sister, Dolly M. Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Avelino A. Duran, sisters, Betty Bartholomew , Gloria J. Duran, and Mary Ann Perea; and his son, William L. Lane-Duran.
A military honors service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 1 p.m., at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
