Eileen Brown
January 21, 1927 - January 30, 2016
Eileen Brown of Grand Junction, Colorado passed away Saturday, January 30th at HopeWest Hospice Care Center.
Eileen was born and raised in San Bernardino, California to William Pike and Gladys Benson Pike who have preceded her in death.
She was 20 years old when she went on a blind date with her best friend and met Les Brown of Riverside, California. They were married in a double wedding ceremony with their childhood friends on January 26, 1947.
Eileen was a homemaker for several years raising their two children, Bill and Patty. Les and Eileen lived in several states over the years while Les managed J.C. Penney stores. In 1964 they opened Squire's Men's Shop on Main Street in Grand Junction. Eileen joined Les at the store and her days were filled with selling men's clothing and doing the daily office work. The last year they were open they finally added women's clothing. Unfortunately in 1985 they had to close the store due to the poor health of Les. They moved back to San Bernardino, California and after Les's health improved they opened their own Real Estate Company. Eileen continued to help with that business. After missing their children and grandchildren they decided to move back to Grand Junction in 1992.
Eileen enjoyed her retirement finally getting to do whatever she wanted to do. She always wanted a clean home and was given the name of Mrs. Clean. She enjoyed flowers and dressing up with her jewelry and eating out.
Even though she was very ill she wanted to make it to her 89th birthday and she did. She celebrated in her apartment at the Fountains with cake and flowers. As her health declined we realized she might pass away on the same day as Les, January 31, 2010 but instead she chose to have her own day.
She is survived by her brother, Willard (Helen) Pike of San Bernardino, CA; son, Bill (Barb) Brown of El Frida, AZ; daughter, Patty (Dewey) Tanner Delta, CO; grandchildren, Clint (Anna) Brown, Big Lake, AK; Kate (Brian) Haynes, Henderson, NN; Cheryl McCallister, Lafayette, CO; Aaron (Bailey) McCallister Glenwood Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Tanner Brown, Alyson, Emily, Elizabeth Haynes, Colette and Cord McCallister and numerous nieces and nephews; four step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Fountains staff for taking wonderful care of Eileen. We would also like to thank the caregivers from HopeWest who cared for her at the Fountains. She took her last breath at HopeWest Hospice Care Center. We would like to acknowledge the support the family received while Eileen was there. Thank you for such a beautiful send off for Eileen.
It was Eileen's wishes to not have a funeral service. Cremation has already taken place. Memorial Contributions can be made to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B N 12th St. Grand Junction, CO81506.
