Evelyn Mildred Luben
May 8, 1918-Decmeber 24, 2014
Evelyn was born in Laramie, Wyoming to Ernest and Freida Weber and grew up in Bosler, Wyoming. She graduated from Laramie H.S. as an Honor Society member. She married Wayne W. Luben in 1936 and spent the majority of her life as a rancher’s wife. She had 3 daughters, Evayne Luben Martin-Coen, Vicky Luben Johnson and Judy Luben Green. In 1955 the family moved to Meeker, CO, where they continued to ranch until retirement when they moved to Grand Junction, CO.
Evelyn lived a life of service to her family, others, and her church. She was a 4-H leader for many years, cooked for the Bible camp yearly, and hosted many people in need for a place to stay while in Bosler. Upon retirement she and Wayne volunteered for various missions that needed help, spending 2 years in Kenya, Africa building a communication school, in Mexico building a water system, and in Guatemaia building an airstrip for a remote tribe.
Upon returning to Grand Junction, Evelyn’s service knew no bounds. She earned a 30 year plaque for volunteer service. She volunteered for Grey Gourmet, sorted clothes for the Salvation Army, did patient intake for the Merlic Clinic, was a blood donor, mended clothes for Larchwood and made diapers for babies in Haiti for over 10 years. For the Crossroads Methodist church she spent the year making sales items for the rummage sale, baked over 12 dozens cookies for the cookie walk, taught Sunday school, gave rides to church for the elderly, participated in the Woman’s Guild, and “elder teens”. When she could no longer drive, she faithfully called church members on their birthdays, read the Upper Room to a lady who went blind and continued to attend church services until she became ill in November.Evelyn enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, yard work and played in a pinoccle club for recreation all of which she excelled in.
Her wish was to be able to stay in her own home with her beloved dog, Mattie and thanks to Hope West Hospice she was able to and passed with her daughter Vicky at her side, in peace. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 1996, a grandson, James Curt Green and a grand-daughter Daphne Martin. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Godwin and Brother Ernest Weber, 3 daughters, Vicky and Judy of Meeker, CO. and Evayne of Logandale, NV. As well as 6 grandchildren, Cori Layton of Greeley, CO. Brinda Bland of Meeker, CO. Misty Johnson-Bartel of Bloomfield, MT, John Martin of Littleton, CO, Shawn Martin of Santa Barbara, CA, and Tamara Woods of Logandale, NV, as well as 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on January 5, 2015 at Crossroads United Methodist Church. Internment and Concluding services will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
