Fern Elizabeth Shriver passed away peacefully, on September 7, 2019, at her home in Cedaredge, Colorado, at the age of 93. Fern was born June 11, 1926 in De Beque, Colorado daughter of Milton & Matt Branson.
Growing up on ranches in Basalt and Colbran, Fern learned how to feed her family off the land, a skill her parents taught her during the depression years. Fern was a hard worker and there was nothing she couldn’t do if she set her mind to it. The impossible just took a little longer, she would say.
Fern and Clifford Shriver were married in 1947 and lived in Mesa, Co until moving to Green River, Utah in the early 1950’s, with 4 little kids in tow, where Clifford started his land surveying business. The family also lived in Dove Creek, Uravan, and Nucla. They lived in Nucla until retiring to Cedaredge, CO. Fern always had a garden and canned a winter supply of food. She was also an accomplished seamstress, artist, and a heck of a good shot always hitting what she aimed at whether it was an elk, deer, or doves.
Fern is survived by her husband of 72 years Clifford Shriver: daughters Doris Shriver (John Boteler) Denver, CO; Nancy Spirek (Tom Spirek) Deer Trail, CO; Gloria Shriver (Randy Ruedrich) Anchorage, Alaska; Son Terry Shriver, Cedaredge, CO; Grandson Brandon Shriver, Parachute, CO; brother William Branson (Sue) Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho; sister Wilma Wallace (Larry) Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents Milton & Matt Branson, Grandsons Allen Spirek and Royal Spirek; Sisters Ruth Hittle and Adah Severson.
We have been blessed to have had Fern in our lives. Remembrance service will be announced later.
