Frank was born in Aurora, Colorado on January 31, 1983 and grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado, attending Orchard Avenue Elementary, East Middle School, and Grand Junction High School, where he graduated in 2001. He was active in a variety of sports activities: soccer, basketball, wrestling, snowboarding, golf, Frisbee golf, and tennis, to name just a few. For a short time he volunteered with the Colorado Discover Ability program teaching snowboarding and rafting to people with disabilities.
He worked in various restaurants in Grand Junction including Spoons, where he truly enjoyed serving and helping others. There he earned the Heart of Hospice Award, of which he was very proud.
Frank moved to Boulder for a couple years where he worked for a storage company managing approximately 1200 units. He reconnected with a friend and the loves of his life, Ashley Costello and her children Miles and Kieran. They married in 2013, and when Frank became ill with cancer soon after, she took care of him until he lost his battle with the disease on November 11, 2014. He was called home to God and was reborn into eternal life on that day.
Frank’s passing has left holes in the hearts of his family, friends, and his Chili’s family as well.
Frank had a great sense of humor, loved people and never met a stranger. In the last few years of his life he managed Grand Junction Chili’s restaurant. This past year Frank was the American Cancer Society’s 2014 Relay for Life Survivor of the Year, was given a trip to Boston to see his beloved Red Sox team play, had a great camping trip on the Grand Mesa with family and just a week and half ago had a wonderful combined Thanksgiving, Christmas, and birthday celebration with close friends and family.
He lost his battle with cancer, but during the time he was ill, he never gave up the fight.
Survivors include his wife, Ashley Costello and two step-children, Miles and Kieran Crawford; parents Phil and Fran Born, an uncle, Bill Hasenkamp of Ft. Worth, TX; an uncle and aunt, Royed and Beth Hollick, cousins Zachary and Emmalee Hollick of Custer, South Dakota; and cousin, Peggy Clarke and family of Suffolk, England.
The family would like express their deepest gratitude to the medical professionals near and far who worked tirelessly, not only to attend to Frank’s disease, but also to his comfort and emotional well-being, as well as the extraordinary staff at Chili’s, friends, family, and the congregation of the First United Methodist Church.
A celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on November 21st, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church at 524 White Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation payable to the Crawford College Fund at the Western Rockies Federal Credit Union: 2302 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501, or the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation: 202 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
