Grandad
Has passed away in a peaceful manner, his wife, 3 daughters and a granddaughter were
with him throughout his last hours, he was never alone.
Grandad was born in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1941 at St.Mary's Hospital, when it
was on Colorado Ave. He spent his life in Colorado. Went to school at Emerson
elementary and secondary school, then went to GJHS, there he took a machinist
vocational class where he was awarded with a Machinist certificate in 1961, Grandad
graduated GJHS in June of 1961.
He went on to Denver Public Schools from 1963 through 1966, where he gained his certificate
for a Machinist and was a member of Emily Griffith Opportunity School.
Grandad truly lived, worked and played doing just exactly what he wanted to do in life. He had
many adventures!! He could ride a Harley, Captain a boat, (a big Boat at that!) He loved fishing
and camping and spending time with those near and dear! Oh and the rides they took on their
bikes, as a couple or so many times with a kid or grandkid on the back! He has seen so much of
the United States it is absolutely incredible, a lot on his Harley!
One of his favorite places was Lake Powell, Oh my at the many adventures and time they spent
at or around the Lake. Grandad and Granny bought a house at Ticaboo so they could be there
more often.
He was always there at the ready, if ever you needed some solid advice or a pick me up, even
when the truth hurt, you could count on him to give it to you straight.
Fred David had a successful career, and owned a lucrative business. He started out with Denver
Plastics, made the top of his field; at this point, he moved back to Grand Junction, to be closer to
his parents and went to work for Coors Ceramic as a machinist. Grandad gave some thought to
opening his own shop, which he did, this is where Magnum Machine was created. He ran a
prosperous Machine shop for several years, up until he retired and turned it over to his brother.
Fred David Smith is survived by his wife Brenda Smith, Brother Robert Lee Smith (Butch)
Children, Robert Smith, Lori Schultz, Cheri Loveday, Miranda Drury, Steve Smith, and Jessica
Bledsoe. He has 17 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.
Grandad will be loved, cherished and missed .... But always near and Dear to those he loved and
Cherished as well! Thank you all for being a part of this celebration of a Stellar Person we know
as Grandad Fred David Smith Jr.
