Fred Vigil, age 77, peacefully passed away on December 30, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 5, 1939 in Avon, Colorado, to parents Pacomio and Adelina Vigil.
Fred was a warehouse foreman for many years, but he is best identified as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed living life to the fullest, and spending it with good company. Fred loved fishing, camping, doing yardwork, watching/doing sports of all kinds. He was an avid Bronco’s fan, never missing a game. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, and cracking jokes.
Fred was known for his vivacious, compassionate, warm, and hardworking nature that illuminated any room that he entered. He was like a fire that constantly burned to keep those around him warm and feel secure. You could say he was the light that glowed in his family’s lives, the compass that guided them home when they felt lost, and the bridge that connected all of them to each other.
Fred was a social butterfly. No one could bring people together like he could. People got along with him so well, and befriended him effortlessly. One of favorite places he loved to go to and grew fond of was the Donut Shop, where he would make countless friends, and on special occasions he would bring his granddaughters along to share the experience.
Fred has given so many people memories. Memories that will be cherished for a life time. He supplied us with all his funny jokes, his words of advice and knowledge, and his hands that could fix almost anything. He will be deeply missed by all who held him dear to their hearts. He has left his mark, his memories, and his classic sayings for us to remember.
He is survived by his wife, Lita Vigil, of Grand Junction; his two children, Jonathon Vigil and Debbie Funke-Vigil, both of Grand Junction; brothers, Cecil Vigil of Denver, and Lee Vigil of AlamoGordo, NM; sisters, Cathe Valdez of Denver, Lucy Walsh of San Mateo, CA, Mabel Flemming of Grand Junction, and Veronica Young of Green Bay, WI; three granddaughters, Ashley, Abby, and Danielle, all of Grand Junction, and his great-grandaughter, Oaklee. He preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John L. Vigil, George Vigil, Danny Vigil, and Bobby Vigil.
His service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Callahan Edfast Mortuary.
