Gertrude was born in Elmwood, NE to Leland and Creda (Mairs) Hayes on March 13, 1922. She spent her childhood on the family farm and graduated from Elmwood High School. In addition to being a caretaker; Gertrude enjoyed cooking, ping-pong, social gatherings, cards, and spending time with family.
Ms. Wicherts is preceded in death by her husband; Winton Wicherts, one brother; Doug, and two sisters; Yvonne and Beverly.
Gertrude is survived by her son; Robert Wicherts of Newhall, CA, daughters; Susan Arnold of Fruita, CO, and Barbara Ahrens of Rocklin, CA, siblings; John of Seal Beach, CA, and Marilyn of Lincoln, NE, as well as 3 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place at Callahan Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction, CO. Inurnment will take place with her husband at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. Memorial contributions can be made to HopeWest Hospice Care Center, 3090 B N. 12th St., Grand Junction, CO 81506.
